Cha De Bugre

Chá de Bugre is a Brazilian tree, sometimes called Coffee of the Woods for its natural caffeine content. It’s popular use is an appetite suppressant and a mild diuretic, used to increase energy and improve metabolism, much akin to the way green tea, or one of its famous weight-loss compounds EGCG, works—supporting weight loss by boosting the metabolism and reducing fat accumulation. Chá de Bugre doesn’t remove a person’s appetite but rather gives a sense of being full without needing to eat as much, leading to smaller, perhaps more frequent meals

As a stimulant, it can be used to replace coffee, increasing altertness and reducing fatigue but without the jitters; as a diuretic, it combats water retention and helps eliminate fluids. It is also a tonic to support circulation and heart function, and contains powerful antioxidants, as well as potassium.

However, Chá de Bugre has a lot of uses beyond these more popular remedies: it can relief coughs, fight off viral infections, fever, and diseases of the heart and blood vessels; it can be applied directly to the skin for wound healing; research done in Japan has also found that Chá de Bugre has an inhibitory action on herpes simplex virus, and is toxic to some types of cancer cells.

Note: like any stimulant, your mileage may vary. Treat it like you would another caffeinated beverage like coffee, tea, or maté.
