Epimedium
Epimedium, more commonly known as Horny Goat Weed, is a popular remedy for improving sexual function and energy levels. Its primary active compound, called icariin, increases blood blow and aids in the management of erectile dysfunction, which has led to the colloquial its other colloquial name, “natural Viagra.” It is used to treat impotence and increase libido in both men and women, while also having some studies that suggest it may help prevent bone loss and improve bone mineral density, particularly in postmenopausal women; it is also used in traditional medicine to support the endocrine system and treat symptoms of menopause.
Found primarily in the higher and drier areas of China and Tibet, Epimedium has a long history of use in TCM, in which it is said to tonify kidney yang and dispel wind/cold/damp energy. It strengthens the sinews and bones and enters the liver and kidney channels. It supports normal circulation to the extremities, and can help treat hay fever, nerve pain fatigue, and general energy levels.
Note: do not take with other PDE-5 inhibitors or drugs like sildenafil. May interact with concurrent estrogen supplementation or ACE-inhibitors. Should not be mixed with anti-coagulant or anti-platelet drugs, which may result in excess blending.
