Hawthorne + Rose Tincture
$33
Our Grief and Trauma Support tincture is made from a blend of two spagyrics, rose and Hawthorne leaves, both of which have been used for millennia to support the heart and emotional body. This blend was initially made to help a friend through the loss of someone close, and found it was also helpful to support the body while dealing with old wounds, especially in times of processing and letting go.
Grief, in its most intense form, often changes us permanently: when the heart breaks, it never quite comes back together again in the same way. As hard as these experiences are, that’s also the beautiful thing about it. As Leonard Cohen wrote, “There is a crack in everything / that’s how the light gets in.”
The heart has a memory of its own, and heals in its own time. This tincture helps that healing, whether addressing acute heartbreak, like the loss of someone close, or helping support through the body and heart through prolonged heartache, which can linger for years after such losses.
Rose and Hawthorne are considered two of the most powerful herbs to help support the heart, which is the center of our emotional body. They work together to soothe the nerves, help us process our emotions, and open our hearts again. Just as a broken heart will affect the whole body, so will supporting a hurt heart help the body overcome any difficulties you are facing.
This tincture is made using traditional alchemical methods and is very potent; not much is needed — five to ten drops, once or twice a day to start. More can be taken as needed (there’d hardly be a way to take too much of it), but the more subtle effects, of receiving the energy from the plants rather than getting a certain amount of ‘active ingredients,’ are just as important.

Rose
Rose has been associated with the heart for millennia. It supports healing from any sort of loss and the healing of old wounds, cools the heat of anger and inflammation, inspires self-love, and allows us to deepen our relationships with others. It is specifically helpful for releasing held in or pent up emotion, as it allows energies to be moved through and released. It’s a plan that helps us find balance again within ourselves, and can uplift the spirit when one is suffering from anxiety, anger, grief, insecurity, or depression.
Rose is also a good source of vitamin C and contains many anti-inflammatory agents—polyphenols, anthocyanin, beta carotene, tannins, and more. Rose can also help with spasms, stomach acid deficiency, diarrhea, and constipation, and supports the treatment of a wide variety of conditions, including breast cancer by preventing cancer cells from proliferating.
Hawthorne
Use of Hawthorne also dates back thousands of years, primarily as a tonic for the heart. It’s been used in cultures as distant from each other as the Native Americans, the Druids, and the Chinese. It was also used by one of the more famous alchemists, Paracelsus.
A protector of emotional boundaries, Hawthorne supposes the body during loss and transition; it raises the spirit and helps us remember our bodies are a sacred space. Hawthorne, like rose, has also been used throughout history as a symbol of love: branches of the Hawthorne bush were used in marriage ceremonies; the Druis also said the trees housed fairy folk. It helps the heart expand into a love that is greater than any amount of pain, a love that can encompass pain and accept it without being engulfed by it. The body’s natural response to shock is to shut down; Hawthorne helps the body’s energies flow rather than staying stuck.
On a practical level, it is one of the most studied herbs in western herbalism, known to strengthen the heart muscles, increase blood flow to the heart, reinforce the heart’s pumping capacity, and provide antioxidants that protect the heart. It is the most well-known herb in western herbalism for treating any heart condition. Hawthorne can be taken for years without side effects, and with longterm use it will safely strengthen and nourish the heart.
