Sagan Dalya
Sagan Dalya is a small evergreen shrub endemic to the high mountains situated around Lake Baikal, the largest and oldest freshwater lake in the world (the lake contains more than 22% of the world’s freshwater). All Sagan Dalya comes from this small region — there have been no successful attempts to cultivate this species, so it remains only available as a wild-harvested herb that grows in one of the harshest environments on the planet, where
Sagan Dalya is an adaptogenic, stimulating tonic plant; its leaves and flowers are said to possess a magic power that grants vitality, strength, and potency, and it has been effectively applied to chronic diseases. In Russian folk medicine it is used to cure heart, nervous, and stomach illnesses. It is an incredibly strong energy stimulator. In the Lake Baikal region, two or three leaves are commonly added to the morning’s black tea, though never more than that. The leaves are so potent that even a single extra leaf might cause insomnia later that day; its effects are immediately noticeable.
Sagan Dalya, which comes from the Buryat region of Siberia, translates in the native language to “white wing,” and they say the White Wing can lift the spirit and free the mind. Buryat shamans have said a mountain spirit dwells in the plant and helps to clear the mind, and in Buryat shamanism it has been used not only for recovery but also for entering trance, expanding the scope of perception of reality and helping the shaman to unite with the forces of nature.
In Tibetan medicine, it is thought to prolong life. Sagan Dalya is said to slow the natural aging process due to its high concentration of antioxidants; to regulate the cardiovascular and urinary systems; aid potency in men and sexual activity in women; improve skin and hair; remove toxins; relieve hangovers and puffiness; stimulate brain activity, improve mood, relieve stress, and fill with vitality.
Note: As with the plant itself, this tincture is incredibly potent. It is recommended to start with only a few drops—no more than five—and adjust the dosage from there. Do not take it at night, as it may be too stimulating to sleep. It is best taken first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, and adjusting the dose slowly as the body gets used to the benefits of the plant.
